How I stumbled on WAHD.ws (Work At Home Dad website)

It's been a while since I made a post here. I've been busy with http://wahd.ws my Work At Home Dad website.

I've been editing it and improving on it for 2 or 3 weeks now. Thanks to http://tiny.cc/freenpowerful I was introduced to the GDI business. It made perfect sense. In my journey towards financial freedom, I encountered and tried several ways of making money online. The tested way has always been affiliate marketing and or online MLM. Both are good avenues to create money online. Both also recommends a member to make their own website in order to be successful. You need to brand yourself and the best way to do that is to create your own website.

That means you need to register a domain name. What is a domain name? That's a question that most beginners ask and online marketers forget to remember. Simply put it's the name of your website. Yahoo.com, Google.com, Youtube.com are the best examples of a domain name. You can think of it as a title for your land (in Real Estate).

The second requirement for getting your own website is hosting. What's that? Think of it as the house you build on your land. If you don't have a house on your titled land, you can't live on it. That's the same for a website, if you do not have hosting, you wont see any of your text, photos and videos when you click on Enter after typing in your website address. For example if Google.com does not have hosting, when you hit on the Enter key, you won't see anything, well maybe a message from the domain registrar saying the website is not up yet.

What's a domain registrar? It's the company/organization that sells domain names. Some examples are Website.ws, Godaddy.com and Endlessland.com.

Ok, so let's review. In order to make money online you need to create a website so you can brand yourself and market your product. Your product can be anything you see in an Affiliate network such as Clickbank. Your product can be any MLM program like Infinity Downline.

When you choose a product from Clickbank and you become an affiliate, you do not need to pay any fees in joining. It is free. You will get from10 to 50% earnings when you sell a product you signed up with. For example you sell StarCraft III video games for $60, you will get 50% or $30 per sale. Nice huh?

When you choose an online MLM program you will need to pay a monthly fee that varies from $10 to $25. Most will give you access to hundreds of videos, audios and documents about online marketing tips and strategies in exchange of your monthly fee. You earn from 10 to 50% of the monthly fee from your members.

Still, the bottom line is you need to buy a domain name and web hosting to market your chosen product. So how much does these cost? You can check the details in my earlier post here. In a nutshell with godaddy and endlessland.com you will need to shell out a total of $579.87 for one year ($9.99/yr for the domain name and $569.88 for one year web hosting). With website.ws you just pay for $480 a year or ONLY $10 a month.
As you can see it is cheaper compared to the two other registrars.

The best thing that got me hooked with GDI is you don't need to look for a product from Clickbank and be an affiliate. You don't need to pay $25 to get into an online MLM in order to earn. All you need to do is get your domain name and pay $10 and you will automatically be an affiliate of the registrar itself! You get 50% out of the $10 every month. It may look small at first glance but when you think about it, the potential is so big.

Just imagine how many online marketers are out there joining affiliate programs or online MLMs everyday. There are literally hundreds of thousands new people that sign up everyday. That means hundreds and thousands of online marketing beginners will need to create their website in order to market their product. That's where we come in. Tiny.cc another Great and Free tool in the net

Since I started using twitter, I became frustrated in making my tweet. tweets are limited to 140 character's each. The problem is I just love to type and I type fast and just hit enter and click on submit without checking if everything is ok. So what happens is the links in my tweets are always truncated because it's too long. So I need to shorten it.

So off to Google and Search. "How can I shorten my link?" Google said, go to bit.ly or tiny.cc

Bit.ly didn't sound good to me. It's sounded like a very techie site. Now tiny.cc is just right. It makes my looooong affiliate links tiny. It really did that. Instead of having a loooong impersonal affiliate link and instead of buying a domain name (costing me $9.99 and monthly webhosting which I am tyring to avoid for now) i got my tin.cc link.

The best thing with tiny.cc is you can monitor how many people visited your link (and thus your site). All you need to do is add a tidle or ~ 

Funny thing is I don't know how to type a tidle. I can't find the symbol in my keyboard and I don't know what it's ALT + (key????) is. So if anyone of you know, tell me.

So I did just that I typed http://tiny.cc/freenpowerful~ saw my stats. Clicked on Monthly view and wow, my lazy effort in marketing my site did have an effect! Just looking at the graph encourages me to go on and market my stuff. It does work! For the first time, I can measure my efforts and see the results. 

This is also true for http://tiny.cc/idteams~ I now have 4 people that is in my email list. They didn't join yet. But that's ok...I know 4 people? What the hell! That's too small. I know but as they say "Big things start small!"

Free And Powerful 1st update

This is the first time that I got members under me in a program. I learned a lot from their FREE tutorial on how to use Facebook, Twitter and SocialOomph.

Now I understand what Social Media Marketing means.

What did I do? Well, I signed up with Freen and Powerful and headed to FREE Method. They have really good videos on what to do.

I really did everything step by step. I watched the videos on how to use Facebook to get your lead. It's around only 10 to 15 mins. After watching, I just did the steps they indicated. Then I watched the Twitter video and did the steps they said. The best video I watched was how to use SocialOomph's Direct Message feature. Wow, now I understand the relationship between the three sites.

In a nutshell, You make a cool and personal profile that has only one link to your business in your profile page. You head to your Twitter account and follow people (less than a 100) would be good, or else twitter will ban you. 40% of the people you follow will also follow you. After doing this, you go directly to your SocialOomph's account and add Twitter and create your Direct Message to those who will follow you in Twitter. You can say: " Hi Thanks for following me in Twitter. I also have a facebook account http:facebook/profile if you like my profile please add me." or something like that. It's a simple version, I really advice you to watch the videos your self. Now maybe only a handful of people will go to your Facebook and add you. Once they do, you can thank them and then share your link with them: " Thanks for adding me, it's great to connect with people who are interested in online marketing. Please check my site at http://mysite."

Well, I did that for a week. Not religouesly (is this the correct spelling?) Anyway, I did that for three days within the week and only for 2 hours each day. Guess what? I got 3 members with my lazy effort. Just imagine if I didn't laze around? It would be much more!

SBi Experiment and Affiliate Programs that need you to buy a domain name

Well it's been a while and to tell you frankly, I didn't work on the SBI Experiment. After awhile of doing stuff, I realized that yes, you do need to be a member of SBI so you can sell it effectively. Since its a Domain Name/Web hosting affiliate, you do need to have your own domain and it should be hosted at their site, this will greatly help you get money with their affiliate program.

However, as I said I do not have the extra $ to pay for a monthly hosting which is required by SBI. I guess it's not for me...yet.

Brandable Domains - These domains might have some relation to their topic but are much more about creating something memorable that can become an identity in and of itself. Blogs that have these types of domains include mashable.com, gawker.com and dooce.com. It is amazing that if you look at Technorati's Top 100 blogs - you'll see that most of them have brandable names and not Keyword based ones.

In Conclusion...

If you're building a blog and most of your traffic based on one-time incoming links from search engines, then yes, get yourself a keyword rich domain.
But if you think that you have such content and ideas that people will love your site and your site/blog will become a brand,which will attract loyal readers, people will come back and recommend your site to friends, then a more brandable domain is better.

There are a number of bloggers who start there blog with the the domain which initially match with the topic of the their blog due to narrow topic of that blog but after popularity of blog when they plan to expand scope of there blog by adding some other sub-niches they found that these new sub-niches are not matching with their domain name. i. build a website - i dont have the money to build a website, i have $29 but that is Php 1,305 a month. still have bills to pay.so i'll just use blogger.com, all other blog sites. i learned to use this with one of my online clients, my job is to do Linkbuilding i just learned how to do it this month Feb 2010.
